Radio Frequency and Microwave Engineering Laboratory (EC-793A)

General information about the Laboratory: The laboratory located in the 2nd floor of the main building and housed in the room No. 306. The size of the laboratory is approximately 25x35 sq ft and can accommodate 32 student at a time in 12 groups and 12 setups. It belongs to the department of Electronics and Communication and dedicatedly used for the student of Electronics and Communication Engineers.

Course Outcomes (EC-793A)

CO1: Define, identify and list out special type transmission line, its characteristics in microwave frequencies and concept of load

CO2: Student will Define, Identify, analyse and use the various sources of microwave energy and the characters of its operation.

CO3:Student will Recognize, memorize, categorize, arrange and implement suitably the various microwave passive devices with the utilization of engineering mathematics.

CO4:Student will Use, compute, solve, demonstrate and apply various hardware, software tools and measuring instruments in the field of Radio Frequencies, for the betterment of communication engineering, medical science and various domestic and commercial engineering.

Name of the experiments performed (EC-793A)

  1. Determination of phase and group velocities in a wave guide carrying TE-10 wave from dispersion diagram [ω – β] plot.
  2. Measurement of unknown impedance using shift in minima technique using a wave guide test bench / Measurement of the susceptance of an inductive and or a capacitive window using shift in minima technique using a wave-guide test bench.
  3. Study of the characteristics of a Reflex Klystron oscillator.
  4. Study of Gunn – Oscillator characteristics using X- band wave guide test bench.
  5. Measurement of coupling factor, Directivity, Insertion loss and Isolation of a Directional coupler using X- band wave guide test bench set up.
  6. Scattering matrix of a magic tee/ E- plane tee/ H-plane tee using wave guide test bench at X-band.
  7. Experimental/Simulation study of filter (LPF, HPF, BPF) response.
  8. Measuring of dielectric constant of a material using wave guide test bench at X-band.

  1. Calibration of Gunn oscillator and determine the frequency of operation.
  2. Frequency response of RF Amplifier using spectrum analyzer with tracking generator.
