Electromagnetic Theory and Transmission Lines Laboratory (EC-491)

General information about the Laboratory :The laboratory located in the 2nd floor of the main building and housed in the room No. 306. The size of the laboratory is approximately 25x35 sq ft and can accommodate 32 student at a time in 12 groups and 12 setups. It belongs to the department of Electronics and Communication and dedicatedly used for the student of Electronics and Communication Engineers.

Course Outcomes (EC-491)

CO1:Student will Define, identify and list out types transmission line, its characteristics in various load conditions also to name, recognize antennas along with its characteristics in the field of communication.

CO2:Student will analyze, judge, justify and recommend the suitable transmission line and antenna with their engineering arithmetic – for the specific purpose.

CO3:Student will sketch, show, solve and implement suitably the various Transmission line component, passive devices, software tools and measuring instruments in the field of Radio Frequencies, for the betterment of communication, research and development and day to day life, with the utilization of engineering mathematics.

Name of the experiments performed (EC-491)

MODULE I:

  1. Plotting of standing wave pattern along a transmission line when the line is open circuited, short circuited and terminated by a resistive load at the load end.
  2. Input impedance of a terminated coaxial (wave guide ) line using shift in minima technician.
  3. Study of smith chart on MATLAB platform.
  4. Simulation study of Smith Chart-Single and double stub matching.

MODULE II:

  1. Radiation pattern of dipole antenna.
  2. Radiation pattern of a folded-dipole antenna.
  3. Radiation pattern of a 3-element Yagi-Uda antenna.
  4. Beam width, gain and radiation pattern of a 3-element, 5-element and 7-element Yagi-Uda antenna- Comparative study.
  5. Radiation pattern, Gain, Directivity of a Pyramidal Horn antenna.
  6. Study of Spectrum Analyser.

  1. Study of Smith Chart. (familiarization and plotting)
